Event Details

For two hundred years they waited beneath lower Manhattan, entirely forgotten until they were rediscovered during the construction of an office building. Who are ‘they’? The thousands of African-Americans who lived in New York City during the 1600s and 1700s. Learn about important and fascinating events of New York City’s early history reflected in the African Burial Ground. Presented by Archaeologist Patty Hamrick.

Patty Hamrick is originally from Columbus, Ohio, where she attended the Ohio State University for her undergraduate degree in Archaeology. She went on to earn an M.A. in Anthropological Archaeology from New York University. She has worked on excavations across Europe, Asia, and North America, including India, Cyprus, and Syria.
